Professor Thierry de Baère

Prof. de Baère’s special research interests are portal vein embolisation, inter-arterial therapy for liver cancer, image guidance for IR and percutaneous ablation of lung, liver, and bones with RFA and cryoablation. His clinical work has been dedicated to the minimally invasive treatment of liver, lung and kidney tumours. He performed his first radiofrequency ablation in 1996, and has since led many significant studies and contributed publications on the treatment.

 

An inexhaustible researcher, Prof. de Baère has also authored or co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications. He is on the editorial board for CVIR and is a reviewer for JVIR, European Journal of Cancer and Journal of Hepatology. He had been authoring several guidelines with CIRSE, EASL and currently with ESMO, ESTS and ESTRO

Throughout his multifaceted career, Prof. de Baère has been a lecturer or guest speaker at a number of conferences and universities spanning the US, the Middle East and Europe.

 

He has been a member of the Board of Directors for the World Congress on Interventional Oncology and was a member of the Programme Committee at ECR 2013.

Prof. de Baère has been a dynamic and active member of CIRSE since 1993. He served as Chairperson of the Standards of Practice Committee from 2007-2009 and as Deputy Chairperson of the European Conference on Interventional Oncology (ECIO) in 2012 and 2013, before chairing the conference in 2014 and 2015. He was on the Scientific Committee for GEST and GEST Europe from 2008 to 2011, and has also served as a member of the CIRSE Foundation Advisory Council and on the Oncology Alliance Task Subcommittee of CIRSE. He is currently on the Advisory Board and Scientific Programme Committee for ECIO 2018-2019, the Programme Committee for ET 2019, and he is leading the IO4IO (interventional oncology for immune-oncology) task force for CIRSE.

Prof. de Baère lives with his wife and two children in Paris. Active and creative, in his youth he played ice hockey for France, and is a kite surfer and paraglider addict.

Jafar Golzarian, MD, is an Interventional Radiologist who has been director in major academic institutions in Europe and the USA. His clinical interests include interventional procedures for the management of BPH, Uterine Fibroids, Liver cancer, Musculoskeletal embolization, management of visceral aneurysms, Endoleak, GI diseases and interventionaltreatment of peripheral artery disease.

Dr. Golzarian is also academically interested in research and has co-authored over 180 publications and over 500 invited national and international lectures. In addition, he has over 20 patents and is involved in development of embolic materials for over 20 years. Dr Golzarian is the course director and founder of GEST meeting (Global Embolization Symposium and technologies) and was the chair of SIR annual scientific committee.
